Holy. Moly. Macaroni.
I would get to meet the two ladies who showed me how much fun healthy eating and cooking could be? The ladies whose show I watched regularly (even the repeats!) and whose cookbook I used constantly? The ones who changed my attitude towards healthy eating? Who took the word "diet" out of my vocabulary? Who changed my life?
Want a little back story here?
About eight months ago, I was on a diet. I was about twenty pounds down and borrrrrrred of all the 100-calorie snack packs, Lean Cuisines, baked chicken and salads I was eating. That boredom contributed to LOTS of binge eating of the unhealthy kind.
One night after the kids were tucked into bed and I was tucked onto the couch with a
Drop everything and go watch the show, NOW! You won't regret it! :) |
The two sisters with beautiful smiles punned their ways through the half-hour show that featured a competition: them vs. a popular, fatty recipe. Their goal was to transform that yummy fattening recipe into a nutritious and healthy meal, then battle against the original recipe in a taste test. Nine times out of ten, their recipe came out on top!
The competition and taste test were fun to watch, but the part that got me hooked was the grocery shopping / recipe developing part. The sisters were hilarious while buying their groceries and offered so many incredibly fascinating nutrition facts about the foods they were picking out. Their passion and positive attitude when putting together the recipe was so contagious. How inspiring.
They showed me that eating while losing weight didn't have to be blah. It didn't only have to be processed foods and salads. I could eat the foods I loved and craved - and I could make them nutritious and just as tasty!
I was hooked on the show and for my birthday that year, I bought myself their most recent cook book, the one you always hear me recommend, The Looneyspoons Collection.
Best purchase I've ever made.
Cindy and I patiently waiting to have our books signed! |
My husband and I are now hooked on transforming old "cheat" meals into new healthy favorites (as you all know from reading my blog!) and learning about the nutrients that fuel our body. We now make 95% of our meals at home and massively minimize the amount of processed foods we bring into our home. I started my blog shortly after changing my ways and have not been on a diet since.
My weight loss is now at the 55lbs mark and going strong!! My lifestyle has changed 100% for the better and I can't thank those wonderful Podleski sisters enough for opening my eyes. Their positive disposition and passion for healthy eating changed my life.
So getting to meet them, my idols, this past Saturday? Pretty frickin' cool. They are such beautiful women, both inside and out, and are SO friendly and funny!
I was too shy to tell them my whole story (and paranoid about sounding like a gushing fan girl!) but I was able to thank them for helping me see the positive sides of healthy eating. They both gave me a big hug when they heard of how much weight I lost! Tears of joy!! :)
My prized possession. |
Biggest smiles!! :) |
So .. That was my Saturday. How was yours?!
Ps. I went home later that day and baked their pumpkin spice muffins. Another incredible recipe!
How fun! I need to check out that book - I love trying new recipes. Thanks for sharing! SPA love!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to share, everyone needs a copy of this book in their home!! :) Those ladies are just great! Xoxo
DeleteOMGosh, this made me cry. I saw this posted on Janet & Greta's FB page. Congratulations to you. I can relate. These ladies are my heros. I remember how totally excited I was when I got their first cookbook 16 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally speechless - they shared my blog?! wow!!
Deletethey're just amazing. i tell everyone i know to get their books and watch their shows. they spread such a positive message and with such enthusiasm!!
thank you so much for your kind words!! i can't tell you what it means to me! :)
Oh you're so welcome. You've inspired me to get off my butt and start exercising again. I'm OK with cooking healthy meals (almost ALWAYS from a J&G cookbook), but my portion control hasn't been good lately and it's time to get back in control. I love to hear success stories. Way to go!!!
DeleteYeah, portioning can be a real pain in the petunias. You can SO do it!! :)
DeleteWhat a wonderful story! I am right with you on this. I thought I was their biggest fan:-) but of course I realize they have changed millions of peoples' lives. TLC is the cookbook we use (almost exclusively!) in our house. I have the others too, and they are all dog eared and stained from years of heavy use.
ReplyDeleteI also got the chance to meet them in my city not too long ago and I felt like a giggly fan girl. Janet and Greta are 2 of my heroes.
(hey check it out, they mentioned my name in the book- acknowledgements page...heehee....I screamed when I found it)
By the way, serious congrats on your healthy weight loss!!
OMG you got a mention!!! how cool is that?!
Deletethey're such great ladies. couldn't love them more!
thank you so much for reading .. I can't tell you what it means to me :)
my book too, is dog-eared and stained and torn (Daughter Lego got her hands on it one day!) .. I thought they'd laugh at me for asking them to sign such a used one - instead they seemed to really appreciate it :) Angels!!
BTW- those pumpkin muffins are amazing, no? I have made them so many times and everyone who tries them falls in love!
DeleteOh gosh .. I'm glad I only had enough pumpkin left to make one batch because my portion-control would have gotten the best of me that day!! So hard to stop at one! :)
DeleteVery nice story.I wonder if these recipes would help a post menapausal person shed a few(40) pounds
ReplyDeleteI have no doubt that it would!! :)
DeleteWay to go on the weight loss!!!!
ReplyDeleteI use Looneyspoons Collection, Eat Shrink & Be Berry and Crazy Plates quite a bit. Awesome recipes!! You would never know by the taste that they are healthy!!! Lucky you meeting Janet and Greta!! They are so much fun to watch on tv.
Keep up the good work.
Isn't that awesome - making recipes that taste guilty but aren't?!
DeleteThank you so much!! :)
I love these books also! I have been using them for many many years. I'm always pretty routine in what I eat, and the recipes i use, so when I was at a picnic, and a friend had brought this awesome loaf, I was shocked when she told me the recipe was from the cook book I already had! I made or at home the next day! (the grateful loaf)
ReplyDeleteOoo I'll have to make it!! :)
Deleteso proud of you way to go l am going to get that book as well thanks you are helping others as well all the best.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much :) And you will absolutely love the book, it's fantastic!
